Modular communications platforms* (MCP) are industry standards-based communications infrastructure platforms and building blocks that enable efficiencies through the entire value chain including solution flexibility, faster time-to-market, vendor choice, and cost benefits.

Workshop “New Information Technologies for Education”

The workshop was held by IITE in co-operation with the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, Moscow Department of Education and Apple Computer Inc. Among the participants of the workshop there were more than 80 specialists from 14 regions of the Russian Federation, including Republic of Tuva, Republic of Udmurtia; Vologda, Krasnoyarsk, Moscow, Novgorod, Orel, Tambov, Tomsk, Tula, Tiumen, Yaroslavl Regions, as well as from Moscow and Saint-Petersburg.

The following issues were presented to the participants:

  • Russian national policy in the application of ICTs in education (by B. Vinogradov, Deputy Minister of Education of the Russian Federation);
  • Moscow regional policy and practice in the use of ICTs in education (by A. Muzykantsky, Minister of Moscow Government, and L. Kezina, Chairperson of the Moscow Department of Education);
  • Educational programme of IITE: principles of forming and structure (by V. Kinelev, Director of IITE);
  • Apple Computer policy in education (by E. Butman, Director-General of Apple Computer Russia IMC);
  • New products and technologies of Apple Computer for education (by P. Zakharov, Manager of Apple Computer Russia IMC);
  • “Informatics for Primary Education. Recommendations” prepared by IITE in co-operation with IFIP and INT (by Prof. A. Semenov);
  • Examples of the application of ICTs in pre-higher shcool education (by the group of leading educators – teachers, directors and deputy directors of schools from Moscow and Moscow Region);
  • ICTs in subject teaching/learning (by the others leading educators);
  • Educational information environment at school (by the deputy directors of schools).

LABORATORY OF NEW INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

The Laboratory of New Information Technology works out software of humanities researches. In particular, the Software SKIF, which is used by sociologists in different Russian cities, was created here. In the computer class of the Laboratory, students learn basic skill working with modern personal computers.

DIALOG SYSTEM SKIF

The Dialog System SKIF is made for processing sociological information with mathematical statistics methods. SKIF can be used by sociologists, economists, psychologists and other specialists.

This system has an easy interface, which is very convenient for the users to organize the system of mathematical analysis initial data results. It includes programs to prepare reports in an easy way.

SKIF software can process a massive amount data (around 5 thousand questionnaires, including 500 questions) and carries out local, regional and all-Russian researches.

“Vista Capable” Lawsuit Turns Up Heat On Microsoft

Microsoft’s short lived break from the “Vista Capable” lawsuit did not quite see the result the software giant was hoping for. After Microsoft’s appeal of a decision to allow the lawsuit to continue as class action, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit on Monday denied to hear it.A statement issued to BetaNews by Microsoft legal spokesperson, Jack Evans, claimed, “The Ninth Circuit’s decision not to accept our request for interim review is not a ruling on the merits of our case. We look forward to presenting all of the facts on what the district court itself said is a novel claim.”

Nintendo Wii has become the fastest selling console in UK history, with more than a million consoles sold since the month of December, latest figures show. It has been about 38 weeks before the sale began, which means for 11 weeks  faster than PS2 and 22 weeks faster  from Xbox 360. These figures come from an independent company which monitors sales. At present Wii stormed video games market in UK.
